My Bluebird Cottage By The Garden

A few days ago I decided to rearrage my living room. I will admit it did not take to long but I was draging my feet. I wasn't sure were to put things and in the end only moved a few things around. It does feel nice to freshen things up!

So here are the before pictures.

I'm liking the small change to my living room. The girls now have better access to their doll house and have been playing with it non stop since I moved it to its new spot!

Today up here in the Pacific Northwest we finally got a bit of snow last night. There is a winter storm advisory until 10am Thursday (tomorrow). We woke up to a few inches of the white stuff on the ground this morning, but the roads were clear.

So it was school and work on a normal schedule. :(

The cool air has made my Litttles that stay home with me hibernate just a bit longer than usual this morning!
{giving me time to blog}
My kiddos are now stirring about,wanting me help them get ready to go out and play in the snow.

This is what the living room can look like when the girls are getting their shoes on! :)

~~Well my momma duties are calling me.~~

I mean to say, I want to go love on my kiddos~
I love being a mother.......its not a duty!
My today will filled with doing many things together WITH my kiddos, not just FOR them.....
playing in the snow {and taking pictures}
                                                              making pancakes
                                           sipping hot cocoa and eating Girls Scout cookies
                               snuggling in front of the fire place and reading many stories
               letting the girls take a hot bubble bath and smelling their clean blow dried hair
                               are just a few things I want to do with my kiddos today!

Before and After {music corner}

I hope hubby will help me get some stuff done around the house in the next few weeks!
My mom will be here and hubby has the week off after Christmas!
I would like to start posting on a regular basis,here on this blog~
I have a lot of makeover changes coming to My Bluebird Cottage......{my house}

{waiting for the paint to dry}

Its hard to see but the old paint is a green.
The new is also a green just a bit more vibrant.
Both are dark...it just does not show in the photo.

Ginger snaps and spicey tea.....what better way to wait for the paint to dry!

Major projects {one baby step at a time}

Here at the Bluebird Cottage I have pretty much started this blog and never posted much here. Well I'm trying to change that. I have buckets of paint and a new vision for my home. {or should I say...I finally have the motivation to "get it done".}

These are a few of the colors we got for the job!

The first project I want to complete by Sunday is paint all my wooden chairs (4)......each a differnt bright color! Noah just painted one just now in the backyard! I need to check the thrift store for a few more wooden chairs so I can swap out my stacking resin patio chairs.

Noah picked Pumpkin Orange for his chair!

I will be posting every few days here at this blog.

I have done a few new things to the house but need to tidy up the room in order to take a few pictures~

I know a few of you are dying to see what a house with 6 kiddos really looks like.....but it ain't gonna happen! {here on this blog anyways}lol

I can hardly wait til the weather warms a bit again.......a few weeks ago we had cool but sunny weather. Now the weather is wet,rainny and bitter cold!

I can't wait to start in on the garden again.....last years garden brought my family so much JOY!

Inspiration.....

There is a councilor at my son's JR HIGH that totally changes her office every year! She does a extreme makeover......everything is different.

All new paint,lighting,furniture. She shops all year for the things that she will use!

One year the theme was African (sort of ZEN) with a fountain wall! Another was Black and Red formal with mirrors and silver. Last year was Pink and Black Hollywood glitz with feathers.
This year is Shabby Chic! I love this one! I took the pictures with her permission. {But she is ducking out of the photo.}

This gal is so creative!

If there was only more time!

I have not been able to get very much decorating done...as much as I would have liked! My kiddos take up much of my time.( for that I am truly grateful.)

When the weather gets a little nicer I hope to do some out door painting project!

Vintage Inspired Glassware!

Yesterday while at Fred Meyer, on my way to the garden section I spotted these vintage inspired dishes and glassware! They were on sale 15% off but I was a good girl and resisted temptation.

I was on my way to get some seeds and soil to get my seedlings started indoors.
I was going to look around in the outside garden section and to my shock it was snowing!

I still got my supplies for the garden, they were inside the building!
We can get snow clear up until the end of May or beginning of June.
We have warm sun July,August and September. Then by October the cold rain comes and the sunny days we do get are not warm. The skies are gray and the wind is cold!

Cherry Red For Valentines~

I'm really digin' my new rug! I love bright colors! I have several of these colors through out my house. When I decided to paint my kitchen cabinets I and thought I was going to change things up a bit...then I got this new rug and I have found out I do like the color pallet I have. I just need to freshen it up a bit! I was going to paint the rest of my cabinets white but now don't know?! I'm taking things slow!
I did paint my caninets under my kitchen sink a bright red color...here is how I did it.

I hope you enjoy the Before and After pictures!

To get started I gave a quick sanding to my wood cabinets to take off the clear varnish.

Step 2 I did 2 coats of white Kilz primer and stain blocker (I wanted it to show when I sanded some of my red top coat to show wear)

Step 3 Painted 3 coats of my top coat {Cherry Divine by Valspar from LOWES}

Step 4 once all paint is dry (over night),sand the edges to show wear and aging for a rustic look! The white under coat will show through. I had a friend that used black for the under coat so that it would be the color to show through.

Now its time for the hardware! And step back and check it out! If the color is not what you thought....its just paint. You can change it!

How do you think I did? I thought the red was to bright at first but I really like it! I'm so jazzed!

One Of My Favorite Places In The House~

Sitting in the girls bedroom is one of my favorite places in the house.
The room if full of vignettes and old things from my Grandma! This blue chair beckons me to sit and read to my girls. I sometimes use this room as my hideaway for my daydreaming! I want to find a cuter shelving system to house all thier old vintage toys! Their room is a work in progress. I want to paint the crib white and do some other projects....
